Dedication to Excellence - The South Dakota Hall of Fame Board of Directors

The South Dakota Hall of Fame is governed by a dedicated Board of Directors who step up to champion a culture of excellence in South Dakota and help expand our organization’s reach.

As a nonprofit organization, a Board of Directors serves as a vital part of how we champion a culture of excellence in South Dakota. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring strong points of view that strengthen our mission. Whether they are past inductees or not, their dedication to uplifting excellence across the state is unwavering. Their detailed review of nominations and thoughtful, unbiased guidance help us select (up to) 10 new inductees annually, ensuring that we preserve excellence for future generations.

We have asked our Board Directors to share what it means to them to serve on the South Dakota Hall of Fame. These poignant words are what make us so proud to have them on our Board. Scroll down to read more from some members of our Board of Directors.

A few of our directors shared what it means to serve on the South Dakota Hall of Fame Board of Directors.

Michelle Lavallee shared,

“It is such an honor to serve on The South Dakota Hall of Fame Board for the past six years and as the Board Chair in 2020. I attended an Honors Ceremony of a friend in 2016. I was so impressed with the life stories of my fellow South Dakotans that I wanted to learn more about the organization.” said Michelle, “The best part of board service is reading the applications of so many accomplished people and then knowing their stories will live on in so many ways, even incorporated into the curriculum in our schools. This helps our youth understand they can stay in South Dakota and have remarkable careers right here at home.”

Marci Burdick’s story is one of connection. She shared,

“In 2018, I was in the process of moving back to my native South Dakota after a 30-year absence. I accepted an invitation to join the SD Hall of Fame Board as I thought it would be a good way to connect (or reconnect) with people who were making an impact in the state.” Said Marci, “without the Hall of Fame, the legacy of these Inductees could be lost to the dust-bin of time. Instead, their histories and impact will be the basis of motivating future generations to do well–AND to do good for their communities.”

We are thankful for Dave Rozenboom’s insight into serving on our Board. He shared,

“As a small state, we have an incredible and unique opportunity to get to know those individuals who have played such a key role in shaping the past, present, and future of South Dakota. Those that we recognize each year have had such a profound impact on our state and oftentimes well beyond!” said Dave, “I am grateful that the Hall carries on this important work and trust that it serves as a source of inspiration for our youth to realize what is possible, to then take the torch and carry it on!”

In 2024, we said goodbye to some amazing Board Directors who had completed their terms and welcomed four new Directors to our Board. Click here to view the South Dakota Board of Directors.
